A journey in the authentic eastern Germany culture
Leipzig – massive Monument to the Battle of the Nations in the city’s southeast, with far-reaching views from its tower.
Meissen – home of the Meissen porcelain, the Albrechtsburg castle, the Gothic Meissen Cathedral and the Meissen Frauenkirche
Dresden – known for historic buildings rebuilt after WWII. These include the Frauenkirche domed baroque church and the Versailles-inspired Zwinger complex, with gardens and a porcelain collection. Its Old Masters Picture Gallery includes Raphael’s “Sistine Madonna.”
Saxon Switzerland National Park – reserve including hiking, biking, climbing around old fortified township or “romantic” bridge to nowhere.
